In her 7 years as a senior leader at CDC, Dr. Gerberding was at the helm of the public health response to more than 40 domestic or international emergencies. Beginning with the terrorist and anthrax attacks in 2001, her tenure encompassed complex outbreaks and crises (including SARS, monkey pox, avian influenza, staphylococcal infections, and numerous food safety issues) as well as natural disasters (like the Asian tsunami, hurricanes, floods, power outages, and similar threats to health). Each of these events had far-reaching social, health, economic, and sometimes national security consequences. Dr. Gerberding makes a strong case that now is not the time for complacency; changing climate, global financial crises, and the expanded population of vulnerable groups predispose people everywhere to ongoing global threats. Smart organization will prioritize steps to ensure their resilience and prepare for natural disasters, global infectious disease outbreaks, and other emergencies. Dr. Gerberding shares her assessment of current risks, the key lessons learned from previous emergency responses, and a short list of health protection priorities to help government agencies, business leaders, non-profit organizations, and families everywhere remain a resilient as possible, whatever new threat emerges.

Based on his book, Lights Out, Ted Koppel will captivate your audience as he examines a strong, research-backed case for the tremendous likelihood of a devastating cyberattack on the United States, and explore issues surrounding the responsibility of our government. As Secretary of the Air Force and as a business leader, Deborah was charged with talent management; readiness and training;
technology and modernization; and making her organizations as efficient as possible. She also visited more than 40 partner nations during her most recent tenure in government. She offers up to the minute commentary on the Washington budget scene and topical issues in national security and foreign policy.

Deborah talks about controversial topics including: the readiness of today’s armed forces; sequestration; opening combat jobs to women in the military; making the acquisition process more efficient; and countering the threats posed by ISIS and Russia.

Mike Massimino shares with audiences personal stories of inspiration, innovation, teamwork and leadership as drawn from his experiences in one of the greatest and most dangerous jobs someone can have—NASA astronaut. Through humor and storytelling, he highlights the pursuit and achievement of a childhood dream, the dedication and teamwork necessary to train for one of NASA’s most difficult space missions, the determination needed to face tragedies like the Columbia space shuttle accident, and the innovation and leadership necessary to overcome seemingly insurmountable trials when in space and beyond. He leaves his audiences understanding the value of having passion for what you do, of perseverance in achieving a goal, of building a team to meet great challenges, and of creativity and innovation in problem solving. He also inspires audiences with the awe and beauty of space and shares his thoughts on the future—both personal and in regard to the ever-changing and competitive space program.

Governments, businesses, global financial systems and infrastructures are increasingly vulnerable on a broad scale to a cyber attack which could essentially bring not only the U.S. but a major part of the industrialized world to parade rest.  Unfortunately most people and businesses don't feel the intensity of these threats because they seem so abstract and they don't understand the effect of a wide-scale cyber attack on their daily lives.   Admiral Mullen discusses with audiences the challenges facing leaders in all arenas to understand the cyber threat and why it cannot be delegated to some part of an organization. Leaders have to understand it because leaders make decisions about investment, policies and regulations and the major vulnerability to cyber attacks is commercially. He explains how the challenges are only going to significantly increase and why this should be one of America's top concerns.

Tom Ridge (Exclusively WSB)

The inextricable link between security and prosperity in a progressively interdependent world has generated enormous business, political and economic benefits but also consequent challenges. As the interdependence grows, so grows the vulnerability. Terrorism, natural disasters, criminal acts, vendor issues, accidents and geopolitical influences can have debilitating effects on economies and thus have put issues such as supply chain security, cross-border collaborations and security investment at the forefront of every proactive business and government agenda. Secretary Ridge will share his views of today’s risk-centric environment and how to minimize those risks in favor of greater resiliency and security across the globe.
