Mitch Daniels (Exclusively WSB)

With over 40 years of successful economic stewardship in the private and public sectors, Mitch Daniels—the highly regarded two-term governor of Indiana and former director of the Office of Management and Budget—examines the fiscal and economic reforms needed to revitalize the ailing financial system, refuel optimism, address debt and deficit reduction and successfully navigate the tides of a rapidly evolving world. Daniels provides audiences with a candid, multidimensional, solution-oriented perspective stressing the importance of innovation and fostering growth while offering thought-provoking dialogue about the implications of chronic deficit and even more intrusive and expansive government for democratic institutions.

Mitch Daniels (Exclusively WSB)

Currently serving as president of Purdue University, Mitch Daniels is passionate about making a difference in the lives of Americans through education at all levels and recognizes that the higher education world we have known is likely headed for a big change. While serving two successful terms as governor of Indiana, Daniels was admired for his landmark legislation which included revising teacher evaluations, improving funding for early childhood education and increasing access to post-secondary schooling. In his presentations to audiences, Daniels expertly outlines the common realities facing the U.S.’s education system (rising tuition costs, inequality of access, economic value to students) and the practical measures needed to improve the health of our universities and bridge the gap between today’s educational system with the technology of tomorrow. Stemming from his extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, Daniels offers audiences an innovative education model for a new world.

This speech will present the scientific research on Mindfulness and how it can be used to create more effective, thoughtful and productive leaders. This presentation is inspired by Gandhi’s quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” The audience will be encouraged to reflect on how they can become more inspiring and mindful leaders. It will address the importance of creating an environment where ego battles aren’t driving the company down and where individuals are willing to put aside their own self-interest for the sake of the greater good. It encourages an environment where individuals are willing to appreciate the contributions of their co-workers instead of feeling threatened by them. A mindful leader is one who is able to provide constructive feedback that is balanced with a healthy dose of appreciation.

A few of the traditional and non-traditional qualities that will be explored are:

  • Leading by Example
  • Appreciation and Recognition
  • Communicating with Compassion
  • Humility in Leadership
  • Maintaining Balanced Emotions

This talk will present the scientific research on Mindfulness and how it can be used by companies to create a more positive work environment. Participants will also learn mindfulness breathing and focusing techniques that can be used at work and at home.

Trust is a foundational principle for successful teams. When team members trust each other, they are not worried about an individual looking after his or her personal interests. There is a mutual appreciation and recognition of each other’s’ contributions. Each individual is inspired to sacrifice for the team. Honest and mindful communication helps create this atmosphere and allows everyone to stay informed with no one kept in the dark – office cliques and politics are not tolerated.  Mindfulness practices can help team members empathize with each other and build strong bonds.

This presentation will explore how to strengthen trust within teams and will guide individuals through mindfulness practices that can improve cooperation and empathy.

Using her skills as an archer—she ranked 13th in the U.S. in 2001—as a metaphor for achievement in life, Geena Davis shares her risk-taking, entrepreneurial spirit that has led her to the pinnacles of success as an actor and producer as well as a gifted athlete. She inspires audiences with her message of overcoming obstacles to success in athletes, in the arts and in life itself.

In this motivational speech, Dr. Sampson Davis speaks about growing up in one of New Jersey’s poorest cities, and his journey toward becoming an emergency medicine physician. With stories shared from his latest book, Living and Dying in Brick City, Dr. Davis explains how his city earned its nickname—Brick City. It is the grit and toughness of Newark that allows such a moniker to be born. His story is an inspiring one filled with dramatic details and anecdotes.

He also explains how these issues complicate healthy life options that are further strained by an undersupply of health care providers and facilities.

Success—what does it look like? How does one achieve it? Dr. Sampson Davis speaks adamantly about success. The first necessary step is to seek out like-minded friends to form a pact. When pursuing a goal, it is vital to have a team approach. This solidarity helps to drive you and keep one motivated especially during moments where you want to give up. We all need a muse. Show me a successful person and I will show you his successful circle. The pact approach is what saved Dr. Davis’ life, when he and his two friends made a promise to each other to become doctors. This oath pushed him beyond his conceivable limits. He never realized he could reach such heights but knowing he was going to be held accountable served as motivation. Simply, he didn’t want to disappoint his two friends. If we are able to form pacts across the country towards a common goal, then we can begin to achieve insurmountable success. His story of overcoming unfathomable odds is chronicled in his New York Times best seller The Pact.
