With the book Superintelligence (Oxford University Press, 2014), a New York Times bestseller, Nick Bostrom changed the global conversation on the coming machine intelligence revolution. It has stimulated research efforts around the world, and deeply influenced the worldview of some of the leading practitioners. In this (highly visual) talk, Bostrom explains the advances that have been taking place in artificial intelligence since the book came out. As Director of the newly created Strategic Artificial Intelligence Research Center at Oxford University, which works with some of the world’s foremost AI developers and research groups in industry and academia in the US and UK, Bostrom is in a unique position to draw out the implications of what may become the most important technological transition in human history.

John Brennan (Exclusively WSB)

Join John Brennan for a no-holds-barred discussion of the current geopolitical landscape. Equipped with 36 years of intelligence agency experience, Brennan offers the gritty truth about national security, terrorism hot spots and foreign affairs, including expert insight on how the War on Terror impacts our everyday lives and businesses. He will discuss the future of cybersecurity, the challenges posed by instability and biotechnology threats, and the necessity of meaningful intelligence sharing between allies.

This keynote maps the essential exponential innovations that will shape the economy, business and society. Find out what's next for the future of robotics, digital, big data, mobile, AI, biotech to the blockchain to security that will shape our world.

Spaceflight is a magical, life-changing experience.  However, there is a darker side to the adventure.  Serious medical issues, both acute and chronic, occur in every phase of flight.  These biomedical challenges are what limit our ability to send astronauts on longer and more distant missions, not the technology of spacecraft or technical systems.

Educated as a chemical engineer, Dr. Chiao first became interested in space biomedicine after experiencing changes in physiology during his first Space Shuttle mission.  A veteran of four spaceflights, he served as commander and NASA science officer of Expedition-X, a six-and-a-half month mission aboard the International Space Station.

After a fifteen-year NASA astronaut career, Dr. Chiao became the User Panel Chairman for the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, and the Biomedical Engineering Lead for the Center for Space Medicine.  Both entities are a part of the Baylor College of Medicine, collocated in the Texas Medical Center.

In this fascinating presentation, Dr. Chiao weaves the physiological effects of the space environment with his personal stories and adventures in space.  In addition, he discusses the synergy between the development of operational countermeasures and diagnostics for spaceflight, and the creation of healthcare solutions on Earth.

What does it take to jump to the next level? It takes the right kind of leadership to foster a culture, which emphasizes the rigor of operational excellence, but also encourages using collaboration, curiosity and creativity to take calculated risks and novel paths. It is also vital that your enterprise stays up to date on technology and innovation trends, to stay in the lead position.

During spaceflight, operational decision-making can make the difference between life and death, success and failure – especially during a crisis. But in some cases, it is the novel solution that saves the day. In this presentation, Dr. Leroy Chiao shares provocative and awe-inspiring stories from his four space missions, including nail-biting tales of real emergency situations, and shows audiences how lessons learned from spaceflight can impact their organizations. Using his personal experience as the commander of a 193-day mission aboard the International Space Station, he illustrates how reaching for the stars is important, but even more so is honing the skills required to not only stay alive, but thrive.

In addition, understanding where innovation is driving technology trends is key to planning for the future. Having been in technology companies and NASA, Dr. Chiao is no stranger to this world. He offers an exciting glimpse into life in the future and shares insights on a world in which technology is accelerating much more quickly than ever before – presenting new opportunities for businesses poised to take action, or threats to those who are slow to adapt. He presents real-world examples of companies, which thrived or suffered depending on their ability to change with the times. Imagine a world in which you are connected directly to the Internet using thought-controlled computer augmentation and a virtual heads-up display. Imagine a life where personalized medicine allows treatments tailored to your genetics, where replacement organs are grown to be identical to your own.

Through awe-inspiring stories of his time in space and breathtaking photos, Chiao looks at what is coming around the bend and how organizations can take advantage of the next technological phase and form the right culture to jump to the next quantum level!

The only constant is change, and the rate of change is increasing. 40% of today’s Fortune 500 companies are predicted to disappear in the next 10 years. Competition is no longer the multinational overseas; instead, it’s the exponential entrepreneur creating companies like Uber, Airbnb, DropBox, Oculus, Whatsapp, SpaceX and Tesla.

Disruption is also coming from data-driven tech giants who are entering into adjacent fields: Google into the automotive industry, Apple into the music industry, Facebook into the global telecom industry, and IBM Watson into healthcare.

As Diamandis will detail, much of this transformation is a result of rapidly accelerating exponential technologies such as Infinite Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, 3D Printing, Sensors, Networks, and Synthetic Biology. During this keynote, you will get a real sense of exponential growth, the origins of Moore’s Law, and understand how the 6 D’s—Digitization, Deception, Disruption, Dematerialization, Demonetization and Democratization—will impact your products and services.

Diamandis is the co-founder and executive chairman of Singularity University, the leading institution for the study of exponentially growing technologies. He counsels many of today’s Fortune 500 executive teams and world leaders on the impact of these technologies. In addition, Diamandis is the founder or co-founder of 17 companies using these exponential technologies to transform a number of industries.

In this highly visual and powerful keynote, Diamandis gives the audience a true understanding of the immediacy of these disruptions. Today’s companies cannot remain stagnant. They must evolve or they will die. You are either disrupting your own business model or someone else will.

This presentation will help you:

  • Understand the rate of technological change and where it’s going;
  • Understand how the 6 D’s—Digitization, Deception, Disruption, Dematerialization, Demonetization and Democratization—will impact your products and services.
  • Get an understanding of what is coming to market in the next 2 to 5 years, and how these technologies are converging to transform industries;
  • Visualize the disruptive power of exponentially growing technologies;
  • Identify opportunities to innovate and transform your own business model before someone else does.

Industrial Revolution 2.0—it's the next turning point in human history and we’re right in the middle of it.

Industrial Revolution 2.0 has been about the birth, adolescence and young adulthood of the Internet. It's been about communicating, relating, evaluating and buying. From social media to the Maker Movement, this revolution has shifted the way we live, work and interact with one another. It revolves around the newfound global accessibility of making our own solutions. Creator of one of TIME magazine’s “Top 50 Inventions” with little more than $70 of over-the-counter supplies, Mick Ebeling is uniquely qualified to discuss the factors that make this the most exciting time in modern history, and how to leverage those factors for the benefit of business and the betterment of society.

In this talk based on his newest book, The Future of the Mind: The Scientific Quest to Understand, Enhance, and Empower the Mind, Dr. Michio Kaku illustrates the stunning breakthroughs being made in neuroscience, which are finally beginning to unravel the mysteries of the most complex object in the known universe: the human brain. Dr. Kaku takes audiences on a grand tour of what the future might hold, explaining how the brain functions and how technologies will change our daily lives. He will present a radically new way to think about "consciousness" and provide fresh insights into mental illness, artificial intelligence and alien consciousness. Now, learn how what was once solely thought of as science fiction has become a startling reality.

From the perspective of a leading physician-scientist, inventor and innovator, Dr. Daniel Kraft will examine rapidly emerging, game-changing and convergent technology trends and how they are and will be leveraged to change the face of healthcare and the practice of medicine in the next decade, crossing the healthcare continuum from health and prevention to diagnostics and therapy. A dive into where emergent fields such as low cost personal genomics, digital health, crowdsourced data, molecular imaging, wearable devices & mobile health, synthetic biology, robotics, artificial intelligence, 3D printing to gene therapy and regenerative medicine are transforming healthcare, and have the potential to enable clinicians, empower patients and payers and deliver better, more proactive care while improving outcomes at lower cost.
