As a current Senior Advisor to a new $2bn global impact fund, Alexander provides experienced insight into macroeconomic changes and the business potential of developing responsible practices. As a former UK International Development Secretary and current advisor to U2 Frontman Bono, on investment and development in Africa, Alexander provides a depth of knowledge on securing ethical investment to tackle global poverty, the role of private equity, and Government involvement in enterprises across the continent. Having served at the UK Governor of the World Bank and UK Trade Minister, Alexander offers invaluable analysis of trends in global finance, cryptocurrency, and cybercrime helping businesses identify challenges and opportunities and describes how businesses and organizations can lead and succeed in the changing global economy.

A combination of economic anger, cultural anxiety, and political alienation is changing our societies, impacting our economies, and altering our politics. Alexander explains how these factors, combined with the advent of social media, have given rise to populist movements across the West; resulting in the election of President Trump in the USA and the UK's decision to leave the European Union. Alexander discusses the implications of a Trump administration on the West’s economic partnerships and security alliances. With both the transatlantic relationship and European unity at risk, Alexander explores how the West is confronting the new authoritarianism from Asia in the East to Europe’s borders in the West. Utilizing his experience as former UK Europe Minister and Minister for South and South East Asia, together with his ongoing work with the Future of Diplomacy program at Harvard Kennedy School, Alexander offers an analysis of the impact of Britain’s Brexit on business in terms of trade, investment, regulation, and the relocation of financial and other EU institutions from London to other European cities and what this means for long term economic growth and diplomatic relations across the West.

A remarkable leader and strategic visionary, General Keith Alexander—four-star general and the longest-serving director of the world’s largest intelligence service (the NSA)—knows what it takes to get the job done. Tenacious, intelligent and forward-thinking in his dedication to keeping the nation safe, Alexander exudes the imperatives of strong leadership. Prior to his tenure as head of the NSA, CSS and USCYBERCOM, Alexander held a number of high-level posts which nurtured these characteristics and helped to secure his advancement and success, including: deputy chief of staff (G-2, Intelligence); commanding general of the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command; director of intelligence for U.S. Central Command; and military intelligence leadership at the company, battalion and brigade level. In a clear and concise presentation of value to all individuals interested in learning what it takes to lead and how to get there, Alexander chronicles the challenges and rewards he has faced over the years and provides audiences with valuable insight on:

  • The imperatives of strong leadership
  • Leading during times of rapid technical change
  • What it takes to lead an agency of small or massive proportions
  • How to provide effective support to team members and organizations at home and abroad
  • What a comprehensive strategy entails and why such an approach is imperative to any establishment’s longevity

Justin and Patrick draw on their work and life experiences, delving into what they believe is the most important attribute of an effective leader: vulnerability. Learn how being vulnerable aided them on their 500 mile journey through Spain and how it can bring strength to your team or business, create loyalty within your workforce, and can generate greatness where stagnancy once prevailed.

José Andrés (Exclusively WSB)

Described by The Wall Street Journal as “a force of nature, the Energizer Bunny, the Tasmanian devil, and Luke Skywalker,” José Andrés is not your typical “chef” by any stretch of the imagination. As a man with 13 restaurants; numerous prestigious accolades, including the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef in America, the highest honor in the U.S. restaurant industry; owner of ThinkFoodGroup, a company with 800 employees and an annual revenue of $75 million; a sought-after TV icon; a political activist; and a professor at Harvard, Andrés’s secret to success is evident in his being so passionate about creativity and innovation that he has no problem rolling up his sleeves and doing the heavy lifting himself. In a presentation chock-full of edge-of-your-seat anecdotes, Andrés proves that a culture of innovation and creativity not only leads to personal success, but also a better tomorrow for all.

Most of us think of ourselves as honest, but, in fact, we all cheat. From Washington to Wall Street, the classroom to the workplace, unethical behavior is everywhere. None of us is immune, whether it’s the white lie to head off trouble or padding our expense reports. In a presentation based on his most recent book The (Honest) Truth About Dishonesty, award-winning, best-selling author Dan Ariely turns his unique insight and innovative research to the question of dishonesty.

Generally, we assume that cheating, like most other decisions, is based on a rational cost-benefit analysis. But Ariely argues, and then demonstrates, that it’s actually the irrational forces that we don’t take into account that often determine whether we behave ethically or not. For every Enron or political bribe, there are countless puffed résumés, hidden commissions and knockoff purses. Ariely shows why some things are easier to lie about; how getting caught matters less than we think; and how business practices pave the way for unethical behavior, both intentionally and unintentionally. Ariely explores how unethical behavior works in the personal, professional and political worlds, and how it affects all of us, even as we think of ourselves as having high moral standards.

But all is not lost. Ariely also identifies what keeps us honest, pointing the way for achieving higher ethics in our everyday lives. With compelling personal and academic findings, Ariely will change the way we see ourselves, our actions and others.

As President Obama’s senior advisor, David Axelrod worked 20 feet from the Oval Office. He shares his thoughts on leadership as someone who was in the room as monumental decisions were made affecting the lives of millions of people around the world. Drawing on his years as a top strategist and spokesman, Axelrod gives audiences a behind-the-scenes look at life in the White House and shares what he has learned from his experiences on the world stage.

Shaukat Aziz (Exclusively WSB)

Age-old conflict in the Middle East and parts of Asia continue to derail a focus on the other issues that plague the region including poverty, hunger, disease, and illiteracy. To truly tackle the systemic challenges of the region, tensions must first be reduced and countries must join together for a common purpose. As the prime minister of Pakistan, Aziz worked closely with leaders of other countries on peace, security and economic prosperity. In this enlightening presentation the prime minister will underscore the need for:

  • An assessment of the current events of the regions and what core issues must be addressed
  • A renewed commitment to regional peace, security and economic prosperity
  • How Pakistan must serve as a key player as a major Muslim country, which can be a stabilizing influence for the entire Muslim world and the world at large.
  • Root Causes of Terrorism and Possible Solutions
  • Bridging the Gaps Between Faiths and the Need for Promoting Interfaith Harmony

Shaukat Aziz (Exclusively WSB)

In 1999, Shaukat Aziz was asked to return to his home country of Pakistan to institute reforms that would aid the country's struggling economy. Dedicated to helping Pakistan, Aziz left his top management position at Citibank and assumed the Finance Minister position pro-bono. Throughout his eight years working in the Pakistani government as Finance Minister and then as Prime Minister, Aziz led the fledgling country through massive social and financial reform. Aziz worked to capture the hearts and minds of his constituents and was able to enact considerable social reforms including the promotion of women's rights and education as well as expanding Pakistan's role in global diplomacy. While initiating reform that changed the government's approach to managing global issues and leveraging its position in the global community, Aziz implemented broad-based structural reforms that led Pakistan to become one of the fastest growing powers in Asia. Aziz engages audiences with a discussion of:

  • How to lead change management efforts at the global level, in business and in state affairs
  • The persistence it takes to implement reform with a population that is resistant to change
  • Cultural and political impediments to reform
