Shaukat Aziz (Exclusively WSB)

In 1999, Shaukat Aziz was asked to return to his home country of Pakistan to institute reforms that would aid the country's struggling economy. Dedicated to helping Pakistan, Aziz left his top management position at Citibank and assumed the Finance Minister position pro-bono. Throughout his eight years working in the Pakistani government as Finance Minister and then as Prime Minister, Aziz led the fledgling country through massive social and financial reform. Aziz worked to capture the hearts and minds of his constituents and was able to enact considerable social reforms including the promotion of women's rights and education as well as expanding Pakistan's role in global diplomacy. While initiating reform that changed the government's approach to managing global issues and leveraging its position in the global community, Aziz implemented broad-based structural reforms that led Pakistan to become one of the fastest growing powers in Asia. Aziz engages audiences with a discussion of:

  • How to lead change management efforts at the global level, in business and in state affairs
  • The persistence it takes to implement reform with a population that is resistant to change
  • Cultural and political impediments to reform

José María Aznar (Exclusively WSB)

Before José María Aznar took office as prime minister, his country was experiencing high unemployment and little growth. Aznar immediately instituted reforms—liberalizing the market and privatizing industry—bold moves that increased Spain’s GNP by 68% and propelled Spain to the eighth largest economy in the world. Now Aznar shares with audiences worldwide his strategies for reviving flagging economies and shows businesses how to profit in the new market-oriented Europe. Today, his country is now sinking under sovereign debt and facing severe austerity measures and a recession predicted to shrink its economy by 0.8% in 2012. Aznar explores the nature of the financial virus that afflicted Europe, the likelihood of global contagion and what can be done to prevent it.

José María Aznar (Exclusively WSB)

In this illuminating presentation, José María Aznar, Spain's prime minister from 1996 to 2004, explores how current international policy affects free trade in Europe, the U.S. and other countries around the world. Aznar shares with audiences the power and purpose of globalization and commercial relations, highlighting in particular the ramifications for underdeveloped countries. Aznar focuses on building stability and encouraging development in Latin America, where Spain has many links. He also details how globalization and commercial relations particularly favor those in underdeveloped countries, and stresses the importance of the “Atlantic link,” the interconnectivity of Europe and the U.S. as they strive to open up new markets around the world.

José María Aznar (Exclusively WSB)

What are the qualities of a great leader? How does one lead people where they might not want to go? José María Aznar knows. The prime minister of Spain from 1996 to 2004, Aznar led his country out of years of decline by instituting reforms that, though initially resisted, led to an economic and cultural revival. In addition, he held firm in his resistance to terror and his support for the U.S., even when polls indicated he do otherwise. Now Aznar shares his ideas about leadership on the world stage about the responsibilities and attributes of leaders, and how they can change their people, organizations and countries for the better.

James Baker, III (Exclusively WSB)

Mr. Baker served as secretary of state as the Soviet Union collapsed and the Cold War ended, leaving the United States in a uniquely preeminent position – diplomatically, militarily and economically. Now, he says, terrorism and the development and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction have summoned the United States to a new and more difficult kind of leadership, both for our nation's own protection and to preserve peace and stability around the world. Mr. Baker reviews these and other global challenges, such as turmoil in Ukraine and the Middle East, North Korea's nuclear challenge, the need to integrate China into the international system, and the continuing battle for free trade and investment.

James Baker, III (Exclusively WSB)

Wearing his hat as a former secretary of the treasury, Baker provides valuable insights on the current economic situation. Baker is an advocate for low taxes, restrained federal spending, deregulation, sound money and other policies that sparked two decades of economic growth and worldwide economic liberalization. He offers his perspective on which steps should be taken to ensure the economy is headed in the right direction and the financial markets thrive.

José Manuel Barroso (Exclusively WSB)

With an equal measure of sincerity and wit, José Manuel Barroso draws on his vast experiences to put the current geopolitical environment into context during this engaging and enlightening presentation. Audience members take away a modern and rationalized understanding of the geopolitical, economic and cultural pressures that must be faced to continue strengthening Europe’s global influence, create stability for the world’s citizens, and to promote a growth environment for multinational business.

José Manuel Barroso (Exclusively WSB)

During his tenure as President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso earned global praise for his leadership and guidance of 28 nation states toward a burgeoning and more peaceful future. He offers earnest and unique insights regarding the future of the European Union, and with gravitas and humor, shares with audience members the lessons he has learned and challenges faced. Expanding on his belief that the forces of solidarity within the EU, both economically and politically, are stronger than the forces of fragmentation, Barroso analyzes cultural differences, security, global economies and Germany’s role as an economic powerhouse, and examines how these powerful issues and opportunities could impact your organization.

José Manuel Barroso (Exclusively WSB)

In this moderated discussion, José Manuel Barroso examines subject matters such as: the future of the European Union, international security, the global economy, geopolitical trends, multicultural solidarity, emerging markets, and major nations of global concern such as America, China, Russia, Germany and Brazil. This presentation is focused and tailored to meet the specific needs of your audience.

State Department cables expose the nature of China's economic march throughout Africa. One document quotes the U.S. Assistant Secretary for African Affairs—in rare candor—describing China as "a very aggressive and pernicious economic competitor with no morals."? ?Behar’s award-winning exposes have long documented this uncomfortable truth—even as every American President since Nixon has embraced the same policy: Trade with China and time is on our side. But what if it’s not true? What if we are only helping cement the Communist Party’s grip on the nation? How can the West get out of this economic and ethical conundrum? China’s economy, at this stage of its development, is vastly corrupt in ways most Westerners can’t imagine. The country is the world’s largest counterfeiter of Western products—and its economy would be seriously impacted if the Party honestly cracked down on those "fakes."?Meanwhile, from Algeria to Zambia, from aluminum on up the resource ladder to zinc, Behar will discuss an economic model of exploitation and corruption that is at once formidably efficient and tragically flawed—and how China’s new "scramble for Africa" is interlocked with America’s economy to the detriment of the world’s poorest citizens. On a planet that's being consumed by those who live on its surface, behind that Made-in-China tag at Wal-Mart and inside our iPods is a parasitical and mutually-reinforcing death spiral. With China now the world’s second-largest economy (and gaining fast on the U.S.), we all need to ask if this matrix is now set in stone.
