Comeback America: Turning the Country Around and Restoring Fiscal Responsibility
He's one of America's most capable, canny, candid and independent financial experts. Now David M. Walker sounds a call to action. As Comptroller General of the United States—"the nation's top auditor"—Walker warned Congress and the administration as the federal surplus became a giant deficit during the George W. Bush administration. Now, as president and CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, Walker has mounted a national campaign to raise public awareness regarding the wasteful ways of Washington and the rising debt burdens being imposed on future generations. He advocates returning to the timeless principles and values that made us great while making the tough choices necessary to help ensure that our future is better than our past. With the federal government's financial hole already over 60 trillion dollars deep and growing rapidly, Walker presents ways for our country to rein in out-of-control government spending and reform our Social Security, health care, defense, tax, political and other systems-before it's too late.

I.O.U.S.A.:  America on the Brink of Financial Crisis
As the most recent Comptroller General of the United States and the new CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, David Walker has traveled the country on a "Fiscal Wake-Up Tour." His tour is chronicled in the critically-acclaimed documentary I.O.U.S.A., was released in 2008. Walker combines a realistic analysis of the financial crisis facing America with an optimistic faith in our country's ability to overcome this enormous challenge if “We the People” wake up and do our part. Federal entitlement programs, broken health care and education systems, large and growing budget deficits and debt burdens, and abysmally low savings rates are all converging and could trigger far greater economic disruption and economic hardship than the current housing and mortgage-related sub-prime “crisis”. Walker proposes solutions to help ensure fiscal security for future generations and shares with his audiences:

-- the significance of our fiscal and other key sustainability challenges
-- the consequences of current U.S. policy
-- possible solutions and how best to pursue them
-- the implications and opportunities for the government, companies and individuals

What Would the Founders Say?:  How America Can Get Back on Track
Like a modern-day Paul Revere, David Walker warns that while our country's current fiscal crisis is eerily similar to the downfall of Rome, Americans have a proven historical capacity to overcome any challenge when “We the People” wake up and get going.  Walker shares an engaging historical perspective that takes listeners from Rome to the Founding Fathers' original intent, and from today’s modern-day challenges to tomorrow’s opportunities.  In spite of the fiscal crisis, Walker imparts his faith that Americans will respond with commitment to the sacrifices required to make sure that our future is better than our past. Audiences will learn:
-- lessons from history and our modern-day financial challenge
-- how the country arrived at its present condition and the implications of our “status quo” path
-- measures that must be taken to right the country's financial ills

About David Walker

David Walker is the outspoken, nonpartisan voice who is sounding the alarm about the unsustainable fiscal politics that now threaten American’s future.

During his tenure as the U.S. Comptroller General, Walker traveled the country sounding the alarm to Americans about unsustainable fiscal policies that threaten to derail the nation's future. His mission caught the attention of Sundance film veteran Patrick Creadon, who has featured Walker in the acclaimed film I.O.U.S.A. Walker has extensive executive-level experience in both government and private industry. Between 1989 and 1998, he was a partner and global managing director of the human capital services practice of Arthur Andersen LLP. While a partner at Arthur Andersen, Walker also served as a Public Trustee for Social Security and Medicare from 1990 to 1995. Walker now heads the newly formed Peter G. Peterson Foundation, established and funded by the billionaire founder of The Blackstone Group. Founded in early 2008, the Foundation is aggressively working to educate Americans about the impending fiscal crisis and how to fix it to ensure that our country enjoys a sustainable economy for generations to come. He has authored two books and has a third book scheduled for release in January 2010 titled Comeback America: Turning the Country Around and Restoring Fiscal Responsibility.
