With a mission to change the world through the power of food, José Andrés has dedicated himself to not just feeding the few at his award-winning restaurants, but to feeding the many as well. Alongside his non-profit organization World Central Kitchen, Andrés works to find smart solutions to hunger and poverty around the world, focusing on health, education, and jobs. Beginning with his experience volunteering in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, Andrés realized that food can be used to empower communities and strengthen economies. In an uplifting and inspirational presentation, Andrés shares stories and images from his travels, including the work he has done in promoting clean cookstove technology, improving kitchens in urban and rural schools, and launching culinary projects to create jobs and increase opportunities for families in Haiti and around the world.

One of TIME magazine’s most influential people in the world and one of the most popular chefs in America, José Andrés has infused his pure energy, brilliance, and fun into many of the world’s most trendsetting restaurants. Over the course of his trailblazing career, he has built a wildly successful multi-concept brand that reaches beyond borders.

A champion for the role of chefs in the debate on food policy, Andrés is called upon regularly to speak on a variety of issues revolving around hunger, food security, childhood nutrition education, clean cookstoves, international development, and agriculture. In 2014, he was awarded Refugees International’s McCall-Pierpaoli Humanitarian Award for his work in combating hunger worldwide. President Obama awarded Andrés a National Humanities Medal in 2015, the same year that the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Greater Washington named him a “Master Entrepreneur.” Profiled on 60 Minutes, Andrés regularly appears on Today and Top Chef, as well as NPR’s The Splendid Table and All Things Considered. His innovative minibar by José Andrés earned two Michelin stars in 2016. He is the only chef globally that has both a two-star Michelin restaurant and four Bib Gourmands. Andrés also teaches “Science and Cooking” at Harvard University as well as “The Sustainable Plate” at George Washington University, and has written widely read editorials for The Washington Post, National Geographic, and Eater on issues surrounding immigration, food policy, and international development.
